STAR WARS| NEWS FROM THE GALAXY

Well Star Wars fans, it’s been an exciting couple of weeks for news in the galaxy far, far away. Let’s dive right into it!

SAN DIEGO COMIC CON

At the 2018 San Diego Comic Con, Lucasfilm held a special 10th anniversary for the beloved The Clone Wars animated show! Moderated by Amy Ratcliffe, the panel featured Dave Filoni, Ashley Eckstein, Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor, Kevin Kliner and Athena Portillo. From people who were present at the panel it was filled with great stories from the voice actors, and some behind the scene concept artwork was shown by Filoni himself. At the end of the panel it was revealed that the immensely popular show was coming back! After being unfortunately canceled after 5 seasons, the show is being brought back for 12 brand new episodes. As a huge fan of the show this was both extremely exciting and unexpected! What is really interesting for me is that this has been in the works for some time. Many might know or not know, but animation takes an extraordinarily amount of time to complete. This news also shows me that the fans’ voices are heard by Lucasfilm. Numerous fans have wanted this show to come back and be completed the way Dave Filoni envisioned. And now that is a reality!

Also, during SDCC fans received announcements on upcoming novels! The first big novel coming is called Queen’s Shadow, written by E.K. Johnston. This novel will follow Padmé Amidala’s transition from queen of Naboo to Senator. Star Wars fans are familiar with E.K. Johnston wonderful work from the Ahsoka novel she wrote in 2016. The other major novel coming is called Master and Apprentice written by Claudia Gray. This novel will follow the story of Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi before the events of The Phantom Menace. One of the most popular Star Wars authors, Claudia has also written books such as Bloodline, Lost Stars and Leia: Princess of Alderaan. If you are a prequel fan, you’ve been gleaming from ear to ear with all of these latest announcements of Star Wars material coming out within the next year!

EPISODE IX NEWS

Finally, this past week we got official announcements of casting for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX film. One of the biggest revelations from this bit of news is that JJ Abrams will be using unused footage of the late Carrie Fisher as Leia in the movie. This puts to rest any speculation of recast or CGI usage to accomplish finishing Leia’s arc. In my opinion, this is the best solution to finish the beloved character and actress’s performance. Whether Leia survives or not (which I hope she does) is the only debate that fans can have now.

We also know that Billy Dee William will be reprising his role of Lando Calrissian in the latest saga installment. It was also stated that Mark Hamill will be back as Luke Skywalker. This was another intelligent move on Lucasfilm’s part by letting everyone know Mark will be back. It should not come to anyone’s surprise that he is, but it’s nice to know that it is official and not being kept a secret!

And Just today, director JJ Abrams tweeted out this picture from the first day of filming for Star Wars: Episode IX.

I’m hopeful this is a sign that JJ will be taking a page from Rian Johnson and Ron Howard and tweeting little mystery photos. With The Force Awakens, Abrams keep it close to the vest so it’s exciting to see that the fans might be getting small droplets of information from him.

It’s really an exciting time to be a Star Wars fan! Let me know what your thoughts are on the all of the latest news from the galaxy far, far away! Let’s discuss!

And as always, may the force be with you!
